OAKLAND A’S MILB: EARLY CAMP ROSTERS (originally posted 3/12/14 on OaklandClubhouse.com)

Chih-Fang Pan is back after a lost season.

The full slate of minor leaguers are in camp for the Oakland A’s and the minor league spring game schedule is underway. Find out where players are currently assigned.

Kimberly Contreras and Melissa Lockard contributed to this report.

The second full week of the Oakland A’s full minor league spring training camp is underway. Position players reported over the weekend and the minor league spring game schedule began on Monday. Now that the full group of A’s prospects are in camp, the organization has divided up the players into their four full-season affiliates.

Assignments at this point in camp are not necessarily indicative of where players will be assigned once camp breaks. As players are cut from big league camp, those players will be assigned to affiliates, moving players currently on those rosters to other affiliates. Generally speaking, players don’t move up levels during spring training. They either remain on the roster they begin camp on or they move down. Some of the players currently in camp will not land on an Opening Day roster and will instead remain in Arizona for extended spring training or be released.

The youngest position player in A’s camp is infielder Jesus Lopez, who was signed out of Nicaragua last July 2nd. Lopez is 17. That he is in camp means it is highly likely that Lopez will make his professional debut in the US during the Arizona Rookie League season later this summer. Right-hander Jesus Zambrano, also 17, is the youngest pitcher in camp. He pitched in the Dominican Summer League last season, but he is likely to make his US debut in the AZL this year.

A couple of players are returning from 2013 seasons lost to injury. Right-handerShawn Haviland missed all of last season after Tommy John surgery. Infielder Chih-Fang Pan had shoulder surgery last season and missed the entire year. A’s 2013 second overall pick Dillon Overton is in camp continuing his rehab from Tommy John surgery that he had last summer. Overton isn’t likely to pitch in game action until late in the season.

Below are the current affiliate rosters, as of Monday.
